Save On Your Winter Heating Bill

Save On Your Heating Bill This Winter

Dallas/Fort Worth, Southlake, Keller, North Richland Hills TX Car Window Tinting & Home Window Tinting.

If you’re looking to save on your heating bill this winter, there are a few key things to consider. The warmer season is officially over for most of the country, and you might be looking at your heating bill wishing it was lower. Energy bills can get expensive this time of year, but there a few simple solutions that will help keep the heating expenses low. From adjusting the hot water temperature to installing insulating window film, here are five ways to lower your winter heating bill.

Turn Down the Water Heater

Lowering the temperature of the water in your water heater to about 120 degrees can reduce heating costs without a noticeable difference in temperature. On average, for every 10 degrees the temperature is lowered, there is a potential energy savings of between 3 and 5 percent. Once lowered, be sure to check that the temperature of the water from the faucet is between 120 and 130 degrees to avoid bacteria. Also, when you’ll be away for an extended period of time, turn off the water heater completely.

Use Vents & Ceiling Fans Wisely

Vents can help keep your home at a comfortable temperature when used correctly, but when used incorrectly, can be an energy drain. A well-powered heating vent is able to circulate a considerable amount of hot air in approximately one hour. Once it has heated the space, close the vent. If there are rooms in the home that are not being used at the time, keep the vents closed in those rooms as well. Another good tool to use is the ceiling fan. Some fans come with directions for usage in both summer and winter. Typically, if a fan rotates counterclockwise in summer, pushing cool air downward, switching the rotation to clockwise in winter to push air upward allows for the warm air to be circulated throughout the house.

Insulate Water Heater & Pipes

If the water heater in your home is located somewhere cool, such as the garage, and does not already have a built-in insulator, consider purchasing an insulated water heater jacket. Consider doing the same for pipes. If the pipes are running through non-insulated areas, first consult a manufacturer and with approval, wrap them in heat tape that contains a thermostat, foam or fiberglass. This will help to control the temperature and reduce heat loss.

Seal the Air Leaks

Areas that allow for the entrance of cool air in the winter drive up energy costs each month. Luckily, identifying and solving those leak problems is simple and could result in monthly savings. For example, the most common air leak problem occurs through the doorframe. To fix this leak, add weather stripping, or remove the casing and add a foam sealant between the frame of the door and the frame of the house. Look for other leaks in common areas such as window frames.

Install Solar Window Film

Imagine increasing energy savings each month just by installing insulating window film or energy saving film into your home. With the typical window, there is nothing that can prevent the heat from escaping through the glass. By applying the virtually invisible residential solar window film, the window’s insulating properties can improve up to 92% – helping to trap heat indoors. By keeping more heat in during the winter, furnaces will need to be run less often and energy costs can be reduced.

Vista™ insulating window film is a premium quality long-term investment and can help save you money over time. Find out how much you could save with the energy savings calculator.

Reasons To Be Thankful For Window Tint

Reasons To Be Thankful For Window Tint

Dallas/Fort Worth, Southlake, Keller, North Richland Hills TX Car Window Tinting & Home Window Tinting

This year I’m thankful for window film.

Why? … I’m glad you asked.

There are several reasons why I’m thankful for window film, and you should be too.

It helps protect your skin.

Other than vampires and nocturnal animals, who doesn’t like a little sunshine? It literally brightens our days. But let’s face it, the sun’s UV rays can damage and age your skin. The anti-aging industry is predicted to grow to be nearly a 192 BILLION dollar industry by 2019. Couple that with the alarming statistic from the Skin Cancer Foundation, that 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer over the course of a lifetime and you can start understanding why someone might want to only come out at night or hide from the sun.

A lot of people think that the sun can’t damage their skin if they’re sitting behind glass. This is not necessarily true. Luckily LLumar window film (for your home, car or even office building) has the technology to block more than 99% of harmful UV rays*. It’s why The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends window tint as part of a comprehensive skin care program.

It not only helps cut down glare but also your energy bill.

There’s nothing worse than having the sun interrupt an afternoon Netflix binge by creating glare on the TV screen. Okay, there are literally millions of things worse, but did you know there’s an alternative to blinds and curtains to help cut down the glare from the sun? Window film can not only block the glare, but it can help protect your furnishings from fading due to sun damage and can also help you save on energy bills by rejecting a lot of heat that comes from the sun’s rays.  Check out Charles and Hudson’s post that demonstrates this.

It helps protect you from intruders, broken glass and hazardous weather.

Windows are one of the most fragile points of entry into homes and businesses. That’s why they’re one of the most common ways intruders get in. Safety and Security film can help slow intruders. The film also helps keep glass together, so in severe weather if something were to come through your window, you’ll be less likely to get injured from flying glass shards if the window breaks.

If you’re a fan of reality TV, then you’ll want to see exactly what I’m talking about in this video that shows intruders being stumped by security window film as they try to burglarize a local business (security film can also be applied to windows in your home).

Those are just a few reasons why window film should make the “thankful for list”. It helps protect your skin, your furniture, your TV viewing pleasure and your safety.

Why You Should Tint Your Classic Car

Why You Should Tint Your Classic Car

Dallas/Fort Worth & Keller TX Classic Car Window Tinting

If you live in Texas, you probably know how much damage the sun can do to your interior. Even if you store your pride and joy in a garage most of the time, the summer shows and cruises, and trips to the beach or a car club barbecue party can still wreak havoc on your upholstery.

Car show season lasts a little bit longer in Texas, but no matter where you live the sun can be your interior’s biggest enemy. Car covers protect your car at home, but during car show season cars will sit out in the sun for hours on end. Only the lucky few find the shade of a tree – even then it’s only for a short while before the sun shifts. If you drive your classic car often, there’s another solution to protect your interior: window tinting.

Just like there are various levels of performance for automotive parts like intakes, carburetors, and tires there are also various levels of performance for window tinting and various price points for both the film and the installation. We’ve all heard the saying, “you get what you pay for” and that mantra holds true for window tint film just like anything else we install on our car.

Likewise, just as there are shops that have expert installers and other shops that probably shouldn’t be working on cars, the same falls true for window tinting.

At Sunray Tint are team of expert installers have worked with thousands of luxury and class vehicles. Not only with a paramount attention to detail but we also believe in only using the finest quality films.

Selecting a Residential Window Tint

Home window tint is an easy investment that provides long-term results. Whether to help lower monthly energy costs, provide another layer of security, obtain UV protection for your family and furnishings or reduce glare, window film products could potentially be beneficial in any residence. Before getting started on your window film renovation project, consider these recommendations to assure you find exactly what you need.

Evaluate Goals

Since each window film product has a unique benefit, you’ll need to first evaluate personal objectives and needs in order to determine what product is right for you. Once you’ve identified goals, a certified dealer can help guide you through the decision process.

For consumers living in areas prone to weather-related damage, security window film might be the best option. However, window film with UV blocking technology would be a good choice for those wanting to help protect interiors from fading caused by the sun’s damaging rays.

Compare Performance Characteristics

Depending on your original goals, you’ll need to examine different performance quality. Consumers wanting to apply energy efficient window film will want to explore a spec sheet provided by the manufacturer. The higher the Visible Light Transmission (VLT), the better the efficiency. Additionally, low U-values typically yield more energy savings in colder months.

Before beginning the installation process, it is important to find a trained dealer to help you compare product performance. The more experienced the dealer, the better they can recommend suitable window film products for your home.

Determine Aesthetics

Although functionality is one of the more important factors when choosing an energy efficient window film product, aesthetics should also be considered. Plan ahead if there is a specific characteristic that would best complement your home such as reflective, virtually invisible, bronze or another shade.

Request In-Home Estimate

The last step before making the final decision on window film products is to compare in-home estimates. Once you’ve chosen one or two brands of film, have a trained dealer further assess the home and give you a quote for film and installation. Once you receive this quote, you can use it to determine energy savings. Additionally, online tools can help you determine estimated energy savings.

Once you have defined your goals, found home window tint with premium performance quality and hired an experienced dealer, you are ready to complete the installation and enjoy the benefits.

Choosing home window tint is a simple decision that can yield energy savings. Learn how much you could save by installing energy efficient window film.

Residential Window Film Fights Interior Fading

Have you ever tried to rearrange your living room only to discover that the floor under the couch is far darker than the rest of your hardwood? Flooring, fabrics and furnishings are all vulnerable to fading without proper protection.

In fact, ultraviolet (UV) rays are the single largest contributor to the fading of home furnishings and flooring. Through a process known as photodegradation, UV light breaks down the molecules in materials but ordinary glass windows only filter about 75% of UV light. The other 25% passes through the glass and contributes to fading and drying out leather.

So how can you help protect your furnishings and flooring? There are several options available. Replacement windows can help block UV rays with additional panes of glass. However, replacing just one window in your home can cost upwards of $700. Spray treatments for fabric and wood coatings are available, but both are temporary solutions that need to be regularly reapplied in order to maintain full protection.

Window film offers a long-lasting solution for your home that helps provide round-the-clock protection against fading and damage. Fabrics and wood maintain more of their original brilliancy, and leather furnishings are less likely to dry out and crack.

At a fraction of  the cost of replacement windows, window film is a cost effective solution that doesn’t need constant reapplication. It allows for light to come through, which means your view remains unobstructed, while still protecting your furnishings and flooring. You’ve invested a lot into your home and furnishings; don’t let UV light damage it.

Use our film viewer and see how window film could look inside a home.
